PWWSD drives change within Palestinian communities — influencing local laws, policies, and decision-makers.
PWWSD conducts local-level lobbying and awareness-raising activities including campaigns, policy dialogues, and demonstrations. The organization believes economic, political, and social equality struggles are interconnected and works to promote gender equality across these areas, contributing to national network efforts that hold duty bearers accountable regarding discriminatory laws and patriarchal norms.
Demonstration to pass the Family Protection Bill during the 16 Days Campaign
In 2019, PWWSD led activities pressuring decision-makers to pass the Family Protection Bill. The campaign focused on protection and accountability, and PWWSD collaborated with Al-Muntada during the 16 Days campaign. The organization participated in Civil Coalition meetings on the Personal Status Law, which developed a memorandum demanding the marriage age be raised to 18 without exceptions. The government subsequently adopted legislation raising the marriage age, effective January 2020.
Follow-up Meetings with the Women Coalition to implement UNSCR 1325
PWWSD participated in Women Coalition meetings implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325, developing strategic frameworks on prevention, protection, and women's participation in peace-building. The organization contributed to efforts cancelling reservations to CEDAW and participated in Task Force meetings countering hate speech against women's rights.
Meetings of the Supreme National Committee for implementing Security Council Resolution 1325
In January and February 2024, PWWSD attended successive Supreme National Committee meetings discussing the impact of the Gaza aggression on women and children, a Ministry of Prisoners' Affairs study, issuing statements to international bodies, emergency planning, and Palestine's participation in the March 2024 CSW meeting.
Launching of a national campaign under the title "Muwatinat"
Since March 2024, PWWSD launched the Muwatinat campaign to achieve transitional justice for victims of the Palestinian political division while advocating for women's rights amid the Israeli genocidal war. The platform addresses occupation, division, marginalization, and the deprivation of rights. The Muwatinat platform reached 7,417,030 viewers through 146 episodes in six months, successfully raising awareness and providing space for Palestinian women's voices.
Meeting with Dr. Amal Jado, Undersecretary General of the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
On March 7, 2024, PWWSD met with Dr. Amal Jado at the invitation of the Forum for Non-Governmental Organizations to Combat Violence against Women. Discussions highlighted the Ministry's role in communicating with international bodies to demand the protection of Palestinian women, the complementarity between civil society and official institutions, the prioritization of women's issues, and coordinating the documentation of Israeli violations for international presentation.
Meetings with the Minister of Women's Affairs
Following Ms. Mona Al-Khalili's appointment, PWWSD participated in May 2024 meetings in Nablus and Ramallah. Discussions addressed current challenges facing women, the Ministry's role in including women's demands within its plans, and submitting demands to the Palestinian government for inclusion in government strategy.
Ten multimedia news stories
In June, ten multimedia news stories were developed and broadcast via Wattan TV, highlighting female leaders and changing stereotypes. Young women trained in media advocacy spotlighted prominent female leaders, activists, and role models in local governance, community activism, and disability rights, emphasizing overcoming societal barriers and contributing to community development.
Dialogue Meeting with the Minister of Women's Affairs with youth and shadow council members
On June 13, 2024, PWWSD held a dialogue with Minister Mona Al-Khalili, Youth Forum members, and shadow council participants to enhance women's political participation and influence in decision-making. Discussions included the conditions and priorities of women and young women, Ministry–PWWSD cooperation through joint programming on women-related laws and protection during war, electoral law amendments, and youth political involvement. Minister Al-Khalili confirmed the meeting strengthened women's societal role and empowerment.
Annual Open Day preparation meeting
On October 3, 2024, PWWSD participated in consultative meetings about UN Women's Annual Open Day scheduled for November 2024. The two-day event addresses women's political participation with a focus on Security Council Resolution 1325, considering the Israeli attacks in the West Bank and the genocidal war on Gaza and their effects on women and children, and emphasizing live testimonies from war-affected women.
