New York, October 25, 2024 - The Palestinian Working Woman Society for Development (PWWSD) participated in the UN Security Council session titled "Women's Efforts for Peace in a Changing World," commemorating the 24th anniversary of Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. Through an address by Minister of Women's Affairs, Mona Al-Khalili, the Society called for concrete measures to protect Palestinian women and girls from all forms of torture, violence, settler terrorism, and apartheid policies.

Al-Khalili emphasized the importance of pressuring the occupation to release all Palestinian female prisoners from Israeli occupation prisons. She noted that this historic resolution comes as Palestinian women and people are experiencing their most severe historical chapter since the 1948 Nakba, as the Palestinian people have been subjected to genocide in the Gaza Strip and an apartheid system in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since October 7 of last year until now.

Al-Khalili also called on the Security Council to fulfill its obligations by working towards an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, stopping genocide crimes, ensuring safe and continuous entry and distribution of humanitarian aid, and supporting organizations working on the ground to assist affected civilians. She stressed the urgent need to implement Security Council resolutions related to the Palestinian cause and respect the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion regarding the illegality of the Israeli occupation and the necessity of ending it.

On the sidelines of the session, PWWSD met with Palestine's UN representative, Dr. Riyad Mansour, to discuss state efforts in pressuring for an end to the war and aggression against the Palestinian people. Dr. Mansour praised the role of Palestinian civil society institutions, including PWWSD, in strengthening international efforts to protect Palestinian rights and defend their just causes.
