Palestinian Women in the Pulse of Global Struggle: PWWSD Highlights Women's Role in Peace and Security at CSW 69

New York - March 11, 2025
The Palestinian Working Woman Society for Development (PWWSD), represented by its General Director, Ms. Amal Khreishe, participated in a high-level side event organized by Oxfam Denmark, the Women’s Council Denmark, the Danish WPS CSO Network, and global feminist networks. This event occurred as part of the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 69), the largest annual international gathering dedicated to gender equality and women's rights.
The event focused on the role of women’s rights organizations, feminist leaders, and human rights defenders in shaping and reclaiming the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda. In her speech, Ms. Amal Khreishe emphasized that PWWSD has been at the forefront of efforts to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1325 within the Palestinian context. Since 2005, the organization has worked to integrate the WPS agenda into both local and international feminist movements, advocating for the protection of Palestinian women from violence and systematic violations.
Ms. Khreishe highlighted the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, where women face compounded violations, including direct targeting, forced displacement, and deteriorating health and living conditions. She stressed the critical role of Palestinian feminist organizations in enhancing women's participation in peace processes, providing psychological and social support, and combating gender-based violence, despite political and economic obstacles.
She also underscored the severe challenges Palestinian women endure under Israeli occupation, stating that Palestinian women are not merely victims of conflict but leaders and agents of change, working to build more just and peaceful societies despite oppression and hardship. She urged the international community to intervene to ensure protection and accountability and called for an end to the double standards in addressing Palestinian women's rights.
Ms. khreishe further called for stronger international solidarity with women in conflict zones and for amplifying feminist voices in global policymaking processes. She concluded by emphasizing that this event aligns with global efforts to strengthen the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, reaffirming the crucial role of women leaders in shaping a more just and stable future.
