Geneva, October 2, 2024 – The Palestinian Working Women Society for Development (PWWSD) participated in the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Working Group meeting held in Geneva from September 29th to October 2nd. This gathering brought together stakeholders from across the Arab States, including Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, to address the implementation of the WPS agenda. Discussions focused on contextualizing WPS priorities in the MENA region, identifying challenges, and enhancing contributions to conflict resolution. A significant emphasis was placed on the unique struggles faced by Palestinian women due to the ongoing occupation and violence, advocating for a gender-sensitive approach that includes their perspectives and experiences in peace and security initiatives.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the initiative to produce a “WPS White Paper,” which will provide actionable recommendations for strengthening the WPS agenda and be presented to the international community and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) ahead of the 25th anniversary of Resolution 1325 next year. The PWWSD highlighted the vital role of women in peacebuilding and conflict resolution, stressing that their voices must be integral to any meaningful dialogue on security and stability. Through collaboration with organizations such as the UN Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) and the Women's Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF), the PWWSD aims to further its mission of empowering women and advocating for policies that address the complex realities of conflict-affected communities in the region.
